Squirrels
10 photos from the neighborhood
Hi friends, this is post 2 of my photography project to curate ten photos taken around my neighborhood. I had fun curating the purple flowers photos last week.
Walking around Berkeley, you will inevitably hear tree leaves rustling and see a couple of muted brown creatures darting across the street. They climb up tree trunks, spring from one branch to another, and leap onto a fence with effortless grace.
The main squirrel species in Berkeley is the eastern fox squirrel (funny that its wikipedia page actually features one from Berkeley), the largest species of tree squirrel in North America. It was introduced to the East Bay area about 100 years ago, displacing the shyer western grey squirrels.
Despite their playful behaviors and adorable appearance, the squirrels sometimes test my love. For years, I thought the avocado tree behind my house didn't produce any fruit. It wasn't until a couple of years ago that I realized the squirrels would often take a bite of a raw avocado and then abandon it elsewhere. I caught one red-handed in photo four below.
Anyway, here are the ten photos!
